Prophylaxis (Prophy)
*Teeth cleaning.
Bitewing X-Rays
*Digital X-rays of the top and bottom molars and pre-molars to show decay between teeth or under fillings. Digital x-rays emit 70% less radiation and allows our patients to view their x-ray on a computer monitor right away.
Panoramic X-Rays
*A full digital X-ray of the entire mouth and jaw. Digital x-rays emit 70% less radiation and allows our patients to view their x-ray on a computer monitor right away.
Scaling and Root Planing
*Cleaning teeth to remove calculus and plaque above and below the gum line. Plaque and tartar are scraped off the tooth's crown and roots both below and above the gumline and the rough surfaces of the root are smoothed, providing a healthy surface for healing.
Sealants
*Dental sealants act as a barrier, protecting the teeth against decay-causing bacteria. The sealants are usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay occurs most often. A mild solution is applied to etch the tooth, helping the sealant adhere to the surface. Then the sealant, which can be milky white or colorless, is applied and hardened with a light.
Amalgam Fillings
*Silver-colored filling material; may also be referred to as a restoration or filling.
Composite Fillings
*A tooth colored filling material; also referred to as a restoration or filling.
Crowns
*Crowns are a gold or porcelain cap that covers a tooth. Crowns are used on teeth with advanced decay and on badly damaged discolored, chipped, or misaligned teeth. After the tooth is shaped into a base for the crown, an impression is made of the tooth and a temporary crown is put in place until a new custom-made tooth, made from the impression can be cemented to what's left of the original tooth.
Bridges
*A non-removable appliance that replaces one or more missing teeth with false teeth and attaches to healthy teeth.
Bonding
*A composite resin applied to a tooth to change its shape and/or color. Bonding also refers to how a filling, orthodontic appliance or some fixed partial dentures are attached to teeth.
Desensitizing
*For patients with sensitivity to hot or cold, a treatment can be done to desensitize the tooth. Special sensitivity toothpaste can also be used.
Professional Custom Whitening
*After taking an impression of the upper and lower teeth, a plastic tray is specially made to fit your teeth. Wearing the trays with a bleaching solution according to directions provided leads to a whiter tooth shade and brighter smile.
Boost Power Whitening
*Whiten your teeth in only a 90 minute office visit.
Veneers
*A porcelain facing placed on an anterior tooth. A thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth, an impression is taken, and a veneer is made to fit the tooth. After the tooth is etched with an acidic solution, the veneer is bonded to the tooth with the aid of a bonding light.
Occlusal Night Guard
*Used for BRUXISM, a clenching or grinding of the teeth, especially at night. An occlusal guard is made especially from an impression of the teeth. The guard is worn at night to alleviate the pressure from night grinding and clenching.
Root Canal
*When the pulp of the tooth becomes damaged and infected, it spreads to the bone and tissues and an abscess forms at the root. After the affected tooth has been numbed, the pulp is removed and the chamber and roots are cleaned out, enlarged, and shaped. Once the tooth is clean and free of infection, the pulp chamber and root canals are filled with a rubberlike material.
Electric Toothbrush
*Corpuz Family Dentistry sells the Triumph Professional Care 9000 electric toothbrush made my Oral-B. You can also purchase removable replacement heads for the brush in our office. We highly recommend the use of an electric toothbrush to fully clean the teeth and remove all plaque and tartar during homecare.
